Lucia Van der Post on The L Boutique’s shawls, shrugs and over-wear

Lucia Silver, who owns The L Boutique has some deliciously simple evening coats, made in China from hand-dyed reversible silk/satin. She has a small selection in the shop, but they are mostly made to order.

Choose your own colours from a range of Henri Bertrand silks and satins. They are £985 a time, and to wear under them there are easy drawstring trousers in jewel-like colours in silk/satin for just £275. It adds up to a sensationally comfortable and relaxed – yet glamorous in a 1920s kind of way – look. Lucia Silver also has some Chinese silk jackets – very colourful and flamboyant. They too would transform the simplest black outfit keep you warm. There is a small off- the-peg selection (£295), but mostly they are made to measure (£350). Check out, too, the gauzy antique Indian silk embroidered shawls and throws – not so much for warmth; more a touch of instant glamour.
